Piano Movers in Stratford

A piano move is a route-planning job before it is a lifting job. We protect the instrument, study every doorway and turn, and move with a controlled plan from room to truck.

The Stratford approach

We find the safest line—not simply the shortest one.

Stratford properties can present very different piano routes: older door frames, rear additions, garden paths, split-level steps and rooms that were never designed around an instrument weighing hundreds of pounds.

Our crew walks the path first. We compare the front, side and rear exits, remove small obstacles, protect thresholds and decide where the piano should be carried, rolled or transferred. That planning protects the cabinet and also the house around it.

What careful handling looks like

These images show the decisions that matter: protection before movement, steady communication at each turn and the correct equipment when the path changes.

01 · Route selection

Using the side path when it gives the piano more room

The front door is not automatically the best exit. A side or rear path can eliminate sharp interior turns, but it must be checked for gate width, slope, overhead clearance, firm footing and enough space for the crew to reposition safely.

Blankets underneath, wrap around the outside

Thick moving blankets cushion the finish and corners. Stretch wrap keeps those blankets from shifting without placing adhesive tape on the piano itself.

03 · Team communication

One move, one pace

At a threshold, both movers must know who is controlling height, direction and balance. The piano advances only when the route and footing are clear.

04 · Interior navigation

Small corrections prevent big contact

Inside a home, a few centimetres decide whether a cabinet clears the trim. We slow down at doorways, square the piano before entering and protect the surface while making controlled pivots.

Protection sequence

The wrap must stay secure while the piano changes direction.

  1. Secure moving parts

We close and secure the keyboard lid and inspect loose panels, pedals, legs and casters.

  2. Build a padded shell

Blankets cover the top, sides, front and high-contact corners before stretch wrap holds the layers together.

  3. Choose the transfer method

A dolly, piano skid, shoulder straps or controlled team carry is selected for each part of the route.

  4. Anchor it inside the truck

The piano is positioned against a protected wall and secured with commercial straps so it cannot shift in transit.

Heavy-item equipment

A level lift into the truck changes the whole loading process.

Our hydraulic liftgate creates a controlled loading platform for pianos, especially when the driveway makes a ramp approach awkward. Once raised, the instrument moves directly into the box and is strapped independently from other items.

Baby grand preparation

A grand piano travels on its side—but only after careful preparation.

We remove the music rack, pedal lyre and legs in the correct order, pad every component and secure the protected body to a piano board. The board provides stable lift points and shields the cabinet during doorways, steps and truck loading.

At delivery, we rebuild the instrument in the chosen room and position it carefully. Tuning is normally scheduled after the piano has had time to adjust to the temperature and humidity of its new space.

Stratford piano moving FAQs

Details that help you plan the instrument, the route and moving day.

How much does it cost to move a piano in Stratford?+

Local upright piano moves start around $250 for straightforward ground-floor access. Apartment, stair, long-carry and baby grand moves are quoted based on the route, piano type, crew and equipment required.

Do you move pianos through narrow doors and tight hallways?+

Yes. We measure and plan the route, protect the piano and surrounding surfaces, and use controlled pivots rather than forcing the instrument through an opening.

Can you move a piano out through a side or back entrance?+

Yes. A side path or back entrance is often the safest route. We inspect steps, slopes, gates, soft ground, overhead clearance and turning room before choosing it.

How do you protect an upright piano?+

We secure the keyboard lid, cover the cabinet with moving blankets, add stretch wrap to hold the protection in place and use a piano dolly or skid when the route allows.

Do you move baby grand and grand pianos?+

Yes. The lid, pedal lyre and legs are removed as needed, the body is protected and secured to a piano board, and each component is padded separately for transport.

Can you move a piano on stairs?+

Yes, after reviewing the stair width, landings, turns, railing and number of steps. Stair moves may need extra crew, shoulder straps, a piano board or a different exit route.

Do you move pianos from apartments or condos?+

Yes. We coordinate elevator access, loading areas, hallways and building rules. Apartment-size upright moves start from $300 depending on access.

Will moving a piano make it go out of tune?+

A move can affect tuning because of vibration and changes in temperature or humidity. Most technicians recommend letting the piano settle in its new room before tuning.

Do you use a hydraulic liftgate?+

Yes. Our box truck has a hydraulic liftgate that provides a level, controlled loading platform for heavy pianos and reduces the need for steep ramp handling.

Can you move an old piano that has not moved in decades?+

Usually, yes. We first check the cabinet, legs, wheels and structural condition. Fragile or deteriorated pianos may require added stabilization or a modified handling plan.

Are you insured for piano moving?+

Yes. Gypsee Movers is fully insured. Ask us for current coverage details when arranging your move.

Which areas near Stratford do you serve?+

We serve Stratford, Shakespeare, St. Marys, Mitchell, Sebringville, Tavistock, New Hamburg, Milverton, Wellesley, Embro and nearby communities.
